CarolinaEast Health System's Comprehensive Cancer Center
This is an exciting new project that is in the beginning stages. The CarolinaEast Foundation is honored to be a part of the efforts to make this dream a reality for this community.
The hospice fund was established in 2011 to honor the exceptional cardiologist, Dr. L. Ashley Stroud, who died after a long, courageous battle with a brain tumor. His colleagues, friends and family saw the need for end of life care in New Bern and started the fund in hopes of building an inpatient hospice home in Craven County.
The CarolinaEast Foundation, together with CarolinaEast Medical Center, Craven County and the Craven County Health Department, created a model of ownership and funding for the hospice home project. Unfortunately, changes in healthcare and an evolving perspective on the business model have rendered the project inactive at this time.
The fund continues to be managed as a restricted investment for the hospice home project in anticipation that the project will become active again. Please do not hesitate to call the Foundation with any questions regarding this fund.
